(Better Than Store-Bought!)
There’s something so satisfying about making your own hummus from scratch. It’s creamy, fresh, and you can adjust it exactly how you like it — extra garlicky, extra lemony, or ultra-smooth and fluffy and you can make them in big batched! Once you try homemade hummus, it’s very hard to go back to the tub version.
This recipe is simple, reliable, and incredibly creamy.
What Is Hummus?
Hummus is a Middle Eastern dip made primarily from chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil. It’s blended until smooth and served as a dip, spread, or side dish.
It’s naturally vegetarian, gluten-free, and packed with plant-based protein.

Add garlic, chickpeas, olive oil, and salt. Blend until smooth.
Step 3: Adjust Texture
While blending, add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time until the hummus becomes light and fluffy.
Step 4: Taste & Adjust
Add more lemon, salt, or garlic to taste.
Step 5: Serve
Spread into a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with paprika or herbs.
